This article presents information from scientific sources and research findings on the origin, distribution, systematics, botanical characteristics, and morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties of the bitter watermelon (Citrullus colocynthis). The article also summarizes data from several scientific literature sources regarding the bioactive compounds found in the fruit pulp-particularly cucurbitacins-as well as the organic and mineral substances present in the seeds of the plant. In addition, it provides information on the influence of environmental factors on seed germination of Citrullus colocynthis, the dormancy period in its seeds, and the optimal temperatures required for proper germination.
