This article discusses the pedagogical mechanisms of organizing research activities, analyzes the role and importance of a researchbased approach in the modern educational process. The authors justify the need to develop pedagogical foundations that combine a competency-based approach, social interaction, reflective activity, project and problem-based learning methods. The role of an innovative environment, information and communication technologies, diagnostic tools, and a collaborative learning and assessment system in the effective implementation of research activities is also highlighted.
